Overview

• Step 1.    Determine if you need to reset the Crash Data.
• Step 2.a. Disconnect your car battery!
• Step 2.b. Have a professional remove your Airbag SRS Module.
• Step 3.a. Make an order.
• Step 3.b. Ship it.
• Step 3.c. Wait 1 to 2 business days before we ship it back to you.
• Step 4.a. Have a professional install your Airbag SRS Module.
• Step 4.b. Double check everything!
• Step 4.c. Connect your battery back.
• Step 5.    Follow up.

 

 

Step 1. Determine if you need to reset the Crash Data.

• When the Crash Data needs to be reset?

  • Crash Data needs to be reset every time the car gets into an accident and the airbags deploy and/or seatbelts get locked.
  • In some cases, airbags/seatbelts don’t get activated after an accident, but the Crash Data gets stored in the Airbag SRS Module anyway and needs to be reset still.
  • Most of the time, Crash Code is a ‘hard code’ and cannot be reset with a scanner.

  • Here is a list of the most common Crash Codes:
    • B1231 – Event Threshold Exceeded
    • B1193 – Crash Event Storage
    • B1034 – Crash zone sensor has malfunctioned
    • B1035 – Crash zone sensor communication error
    • 65535 – Internal control module memory error-intermittent
    • B1000/31 – Center Airbag Sensor Assembly Malfunction
    • 8-5/5-1/9-1 – Internal Failure of the SRS unit
    • B1000 – SDM malfunction
    • B1620/B1670 – Supplemental restraint system control module internal fault (replace SRSCM)
    • B1499 – SRS-ECU air bag condition monitor detects deployed air bag
    • B1239 – Air bag diagnosis sensor unit is malfunctioning
    • B1209/B1210 – Frontal/Side collision detection
    • Note, some cars might have crash data with no codes, e.g. Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Honda, Acura …

  • After an accident none of my airbags or seatbelts have been deployed, but SRS light stays ON?

    • Frequently you might not see any airbags deployed, or seatbelts locked, but seatbelts (explosive charge) might still be deployed internally and computer will store a fault code.
      • Sometimes computer doesn’t store a code (e.g. some Toyota, Honda …) but it still has crash memory that needs to be cleared.
    • Sometimes you will not have any airbags deployed, but computer will register a crash event, or set a code for passenger seat weight sensor re-calibration.
• Almost all airbag modules can be reset, except if they are flood or fire damaged.
  • We don’t repair flooded or burnt units and ECU’s with no communication!
• It is always best to send your original module to us for reset to avoid additional trip to the dealer for coding.
  • Most of the late model cars will have partial VIN stored in the airbag control module.

 

Step 2.a. Disconnect your car battery!

• Important! BEFORE removing (unbolting) or installing your airbag control module
  1. ALWAYS disconnect a battery negative cable and
  2. WAIT for a few minutes (to de-energize the capacitors in the system).
     • Airbag control module has a motion sensor (accelerometer) which detects the change in motion.
     • If you will try to remove or install an airbag module with the ignition on, this sensor can misinterpret control module movements as an accident event, and trigger airbag deployment! 

 

 

Step 2.b. Have a professional remove your Airbag SRS Module.

• Usually the Airbag SRS Module is located under a center console (bolted down to a floor).

Step 3.a. Make an order.

• When making an order, include your vehicle’s VIN and, if possible, a part number of the Airbag SRS computer.
• Upon receiving your order, we will email you an address with shipping instructions.

 

Step 3.b. Ship it.

• Pack it well in an air pillow film, to avoid computer damage.
• Follow shipping instructions.

 

Step 3.c. Wait 1 to 2 business days before we ship it back to you.

 

Step 4.a. Have a professional install your Airbag SRS Module.

• Important! BEFORE installing your airbag control module
  1. ALWAYS disconnect a battery negative cable and
  2. WAIT for a few minutes
     • Airbag control module has a motion sensor (accelerometer) which detects the change in motion.

Step 4.b. Double check everything!

• • Make sure all the Airbag SRS Module bolts and nuts are bolted down tightly.
  • If any of impact/crash sensors have been removed during a body repair process,
    • make sure they are bolted down tightly.
    • If someone forgot to bolt them down, later on when you drive your car, the impact sensor will bounce around and most likely WILL trigger airbag deployment.

  • Make sure all the airbags and seatbelts are connected before reconnecting the battery.

 

 

 

Step 4.c. Connect your battery back.

• If everything is connected and replaced properly, the airbag light should turn off.
• In some cases it needs a diagnostic scanner to finish the reset process.

 

 

 

 

Step 5. Follow up.

• If the SRS light remains ON, scan the airbag system and see what error codes it is throwing.
  • If you are not familiar with the codes, send us an email with a code picture.
  • Note, follow up troubleshooting of airbag components is not included in the price of this Airbag SRS Module Crash Data Reset Service, this is a job for an automotive technician, but we will do our best to give you an expert opinion on best troubleshooting steps for the corresponding error codes.
